Title: Differences between BBj Standard Edition (SE) and BBj Enterprise Edition (EE)
Description: 1.) What are the technical differences between the Standard and Enterprise editions of BBj?
2.) Do I need the full Java SDK or will the JRE do?
Resolution: 1.) In technical terms:
with a Standard Edition, BBj Services will only accept local connections;
with an Enterprise Edition, BBj Services will accept connections from localhost as well as external connections.
In layman's terms, this is the the difference between having the ability to do distributed processing or not. BBj Standard Edition (SE) is a replacement for a multi-user, terminal oriented, single machine configuration. BBj Enterprise Edition (EE) is needed for Thin Client Connections, Thin Client in a Web Browser, and to allow for other distributed computing environments. The EE allows connections from networked clients; i.e., GUI clients networked to a UNIX/Windows) Server, as well as separation of the DataServer, AppServer, etc.
2.) A JRE is all that is required to run BBj. The Java SDK includes the JRE plus additional components to use for development, such as a Java debugger and Javadoc utility that documents java code.
