KB#00280-Possible causes for a BBx error 16

Title:

Possible causes for a BBx error 16

Description:

Error 16 can be caused by config.bbx configuration problems or by operating system configuration problems. Print the TCB(10) value immediately after you receive the ERROR=16 to determine the reason:

        >PRINT TCB(10)

Resolution:

A TCB(10) of a positive 17 indicates a config.bbx problem--usually FBCS=, CIBS= or STBLEN=. Increase these parameters.

A TCB(10) of a negative number needs a bit more info:

Under a Unix operating system, simply look up the absolute value of the TCB(10) result in the file /usr/include/sys/errno.h.

Under DOS, the errors are not so easily located. Technical Support can help locate these. Most often, the problem is related to SHARE parameters that need to be increased:

(SHARE /F:4096 /L:250),

Another possible reason is that the FILES= parameter may need to be increased in the CONFIG.SYS file.
