BASIS International Ltd. announces the release of version 6.21 for BBj®, the newest generation of BBx®. This maintenance release includes the resolution of over 70 important QA memos and the addition of several new 7.0 preview features.
LANGUAGE/INTERPRETER
- New Controls
- BBjDataBoundGrid – a grid control that can be bound to a BBjRecordSet object and controlled by a BBjNavigator object
- BBjSlider – a control that enables the end user to move a slider along a range to set or choose a particular value
- BBjColorChooser – a standardized tabbed color chooser control that offers various mechanisms to choose a color such as HSB values, RGB values, and swatches
- BBj Font Chooser – allows the user to select a font with preview capabilities
- BBj File/Directory Chooser – allows the user to select a file or directory
- BBj Spinner and interface for controls – augments various input controls with spinner capabilities, allowing the user to easily select an option by cycling through the list via a keystroke or by clicking the up/down buttons. Spinner controls are also data bindable and data fillable
- BBj HTML – displays HTML content
- BBj Print Preview – displays a preview of SYSPRINT print jobs or BBjForms inside a SYSGUI window
- BBj Graphical Charts – displays 3D graphical charts including bar charts, line charts, pie charts
- BBj Spellchecker and interface for editable controls - augments the various editing controls with optional SpellChecking capabilities; supports multiple languages and user customization
- MODE=CLIENT for FILEOPEN and FILESAVE dialogs - provides a view of the filesystem on the computer running the display of a thin-client session.
- BBjString – extends the legacy BBx string variable with the functionality of the java.lang.String class. All public methods of the java String class are available on a BBjString and a BBjString can be used as a legacy BBx string variable
- BBjNumber – extends the legacy BBx numeric variable with the functionality of the java.lang.Number class. BBjNumber has all the methods of the Java Number class as well as a method asBoolean().
DEVELOPMENT TOOLS
- FormGen Wizard – enhanced to include the BBjDataBoundGrid as an optional control when generating a resourceText
DATABASE MANAGEMENT
- BASIS SQL Engine enhancements – adds the following grammar in additional to the existing BASIS SQL compliance with the ANSI SQL-92 grammar standard:
- ALTER TABLE – add column, drop column, alter column
- SELECT INTO – ouputs the contents of a SELECT statement into a new table

- JDBC Connection Pooling – provides the ability from the Enterprise Manager to create named, configurable JDBC connection pools from which BBj applications can acquire connections
