BASIS International Ltd. announces the release of PRO/5® 5.0 and Visual PRO/5® 5.0.

The enhancements in this release of PRO/5 and Visual PRO/5 gives developers the tools necessary to meet the growing demand for protecting the transmission and storage of data. In addition, this revision simplifies the transition from legacy BBx® to BBj®, the latest version of BBx.

SECURITY

The components of the added security include:

• Client/Server Communication Encryption - Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption of communication between the interpreter and the data server.
• Socket Level Encryption - SSL encryption is now available for all socket communication.
• Field Level Encryption - Choice of encryption algorithms to encrypt individual fields in a file.
• File Level Encryption - Choice of encryption algorithms to encrypt an entire file.

MIGRATION to BBj

Both BASIS products, BBj and (V)PRO/5, can now connect directly to the BBj database, giving customers the ability to deploy the traditional interpreter with an innovative java-powered database. This extends the product co-existence benefits available in the previous release, which enabled the products to share the same license file and user counts.
