BASIS International Ltd. announces the release of BBj®, 3.0, the latest version of Business BASIC written in
Java.
BBj 3.0 lets developers write tightly integrated applications, creating a competitive advantage in today's application
development environment. Listed below is a summary of the new features and functionality available in BBj 3.0:
- Enhanced performance. Greater speed in the interpreter, the printing functions, and the SQL engine, coupled with a
smaller memory footprint, provide for a more productive user experience in all BBj applications.
- Improved Enterprise Manager. Enterprise Manager improvements include new functionality to manage internal and
external database connections, monitor interpreter sessions, detect all open files and display the executing program
line, all of which lead to more efficient system administration time and effort.
- Multiple Document Interface (MDI). The MDI permits multiple distinct BBj programs to appear within a single
graphical window on the user's desktop. This follows user-interface standards of other modern graphical applications
such as word processors and spreadsheets.
- Event timers and namespaces. These two important new language tools offer greater flexibility and convenience to
control timing and InterProcess Communication (IPC) between BBj applications.
- Improved deployment and licensing. Single JVM deployment and more generous, connection-based licensing allow
significant savings in both resource and license count usage.
- New graphical controls. Progress bars, popup menus, and tree controls have joined the list of graphical controls
available for state-of-the-art user interface design.
- Java and .Net Web services support. These new technologies enable software applications on different platforms or
networks to communicate via the Web.
